EDIBLE DUBUQUE. During the summer of 2015, a local group of horticulturists, gardeners, arborists and city leaders joined to support the growth of urban gardening. The initiative, called "Edible Dubuque," was awarded a $2,000 grant from Sustainable Dubuque to create edible landscapes. Residents, businesses, churches, nonprofits and schools were encouraged to include edible plants into their landscapes. Grant funds were to be used to develop signs and a website educating residents about the various sites of gardens or be develop their own.

Among the established landscapes was the [[DUBUQUE RESCUE MISSION]] and the Washington Neighborhood Community Garden. The City Hall Annex, at 1300 Main, had a garden maintained by employees. In the early spring of 2016, officials at the [[DUBUQUE ARBORETUM AND BOTANICAL GARDENS]] were planning a 20,000-square-foot "Garden of Eat'n" while a community orchard was planned as part of the [[BEE BRANCH]] restoration project.
