	DUBUQUE WOMAN TEACHERS' CLUB. Prior to the formation of the [[DUBUQUE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION]], the Dubuque Woman Teachers' Club attempted in 1903 to obtain better compensation for the city's public school teachers. While stating that "very few teachers wish to put on more style in dress, they did wish to travel more, to attend schools that they may acquire knowledge of the special studies introduced in late years and also to get new light on the old subjects." The Club also acknowledged that higher salaries would relieve them in large measure from the apprehensions of old age without a ~~cimpetency~~ and give them a security that would better the quality of their lives." Promote the welfare of the public schools; to secure for the members of
the organization whatever advantages--social, intellectual, and
pecuniary--that may be derived from cooperation; and to create in the
community at large a deeper sense of the importance of the interests
which they as teachers represent.
