CONFESSIONS OF JUDGMENT. One of the oldest and most unique books in the [[DUBUQUE COUNTY COURTHOUSE]], the Confessions of Judgment listed cases in which someone immediately admitted a debt and agreed to pay. The other alternatives would be cases which were dismissed, settled out of court, or taken to court.

The first case to be entered in the book was November 29, 1895 in which B. Schulte & Son agreed to pay $845 and 7% interest to the Cleveland Stone Company. The last was dated 1993 where one party agreed to pay the Iowa College Student Aid Commission $4,104.87 and 9% interest. Agreements continue to be recorded in the Recorder's Office but not in a similar book.
