	Founded in 1966, the Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) in 2019 operated a global network of 63 manufacturing plants and 31 distribution centers. It was the leading manufacturer of high performance thermoplastic corrugated pipe, providing a comprehensive choice of water management products and superior drainage solutions for use in the construction and infrastructure marketplace. 	The financial status of the university was enhanced in February 1994 by a $1.2 million gift he made to the university. The focus of the gift was $700,000 for the expansion and improvement of such outdoor athletic facilities as Chalmers Field. (4) In 2011 university officials announced that Joseph Chlapaty and his wife Linda had donated more than $6 million to be used to support the establishment of endowed academic chairs for the undergraduate college in chemistry, mathematics, economics, and the seminary. A summer research fellowship in science and mathematics was also created in the undergraduate college. (5)

	In 2019 the Joseph and Linda Chlapaty Summer Fellowship was in its eighth year. The competitive fellowship helped prepare talented undergraduate students across all disciplines for graduate or professional school. 	The fellowship provided students the opportunity to engage in tailored scholarly activities to position them to succeed in graduate and professional schools. Modeled after a cohort graduate school model, the students worked collectively to prepare for entrance exams, build professional connections, and conduct research projects in conjunction with dedicated faculty advisors. Fellows committed to 40 hours a week for 10 weeks during the summer on their projects. They received a stipend of $4,500 and an additional $500 for research supplies or travel costs associated with the project. (5)		The fellowship provided students the opportunity to engage in tailored scholarly activities to position them to succeed in graduate and professional schools. Modeled after a cohort graduate school model, the students worked collectively to prepare for entrance exams, build professional connections, and conduct research projects in conjunction with dedicated faculty advisors. Chlapaty joined Advanced Drainage Systems in 1980 and served as Chairman of the Board since 2008, Chief Executive Officer since 2004 and President since 1994.
