	CAITHAM, Arnold A. (St. Joseph, IN, August 1, 1908--Scottsdale, AZ, Dec. 11, 1997). Caitham and his parents immigrated to the United States in 1908. Staying briefly in Boston, the family moved to Chicago where Arnold's father was a brewer for the Citizen's Brewery. 	Arnold served an apprenticeship at the Muessel Brewing Company before attending the Siebel Insitute of Technology in Chicago. He worked as an assistant master brewer before joining Fountain Brewing Company Inc. as manager and master brewer. He briefly worked for the Oshkosh Brewing Company before joining [[DUBUQUE STAR BREWING COMPANY]] in 1952.		Arnold served an apprenticeship at the Muessel Brewing Company before attending the Siebel Insitute of Technology in Chicago. He graduated in 1939 and returned to the South Bend Brewing Company which had become Drewrys Ltd. He worked as an assistant master brewer before joining Fountain Brewing Company Inc. as manager and master brewer. He briefly worked for the Oshkosh Brewing Company before joining [[DUBUQUE STAR BREWING COMPANY]] in 1952.

	His five-year plan for the brewery resulted in the company enjoying its "Golden Age." Caitham realized that brewing which had once been considered an art was now done scientifically. Physical, chemical, and microscopical analysis of every brew could be made during and after brewing. Services of outside commercial laboratories could be used to ensure quality. Stainless steel containers replaced wooded kegs. Modernization of the bottle house included a washer in which every bottle ~~was~~ went through thirty minutes of caustic solution, brushing and rinsing four times. Placed on a conveyor, the filling machine could fill and cap 125-12-ounce bottles per minute. The pasteurizer had a capacity of 265 cases per hour. By 1958 the number of Star outlets had risen 48%. Believing in advertising, Caitham made sure each outlet salesman could explain the entire brewing process to potential customers. B. A. A.; president of the Dubuque Beer Wholesalers Association and an alternate director of the Iowa Wholesalers Association. In 1956 he served on the Catholic Central High Advisory Board.
