	John was a science and math teacher for over forty years beginning his career at the Columbus Junction School in 1962. For the majority of his career, he taught chemistry at [[STEPHEN HEMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOOL]]. After 28 years of teaching at Hempstead from 1969 to 1997, John retired from full time teaching but continued to work with students as a substitute teacher until 2006.		John was a science and math teacher for over forty years beginning his career at the Columbus Junction School in 1962. For the majority of his career, he taught chemistry at [[STEPHEN HEMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOOL]]. 	John sang in the Dubuque Chorale for over twenty years and had the opportunity to travel with the Chorale on several overseas tours. ~~John~~ was an active member of [[WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH]] and a retired member of the National Science Teachers Association, National Education Association, Iowa State Education Association and the [[DUBUQUE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION.		John sang in the Dubuque Chorale for over twenty years and had the opportunity to travel with the Chorale on several overseas tours.
