	BENSON, F. I. (Erie County, PA, Jan. 26, 1835--Unknown). When only twelve years of age, Benson learned telegraphing. 	In January, 1861, Benson came to Dubuque and worked in the telegraph office until 1866 when he became manager of the Atlantic and Pacific Telegraph Company. He held that position for five years until the consolidation of the two lines when he again became associated with the Western Union. On January 1, 1879, he was appointed manager of the Western Union Telegraph Company in Dubuque.		In January, 1861, Benson came to Dubuque and worked in the telegraph office until 1866 when he became manager of the Atlantic and Pacific Telegraph Company. He held that position for five years until the consolidation of the two lines when he again became associated with the Western Union. On January 1, 1879, he was appointed manager of the Western Union Telegraph Company in Dubuque.
