During the term of Iowa Governor Horace Boles, 1890 to 1894, Barker served as journal clerk in the Iowa Legislature. In Dubuque, Barker served many years as secretary of the Dubuque Chapter of the [[DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION]] and was an honorary member of the organization at her death.		Barker accepted a position with the Installation Department of the first World's Fair in Chicago. She later accepted an invitation to take a similar position with the Paris Exposition. During the term of Iowa Governor Horace Boles, 1890 to 1894, Barker served as journal clerk in the Iowa Legislature.
