Zepeski began his art lessons at the age of nine with Dan Glassell. The lessons cost twenty-five cents, and Glassell provided the supplies. In October 1988, a one-person show of Zepeski's work was featured by the [[DUBUQUE COUNTY FINE ARTS SOCIETY]] at the [[CARNEGIE-STOUT PUBLIC LIBRARY]]. His work was also a featured part of ''Faith and Fortunes: An Encyclopedia of Dubuque County''. Beginning in the late 1980s, Zepeski took up the hobby of carving tree trunks into statues of famous people.
