WILLIAMS, Charles. (Galena, IL, Mar. 7, 1919- ). Williams served five years as president of the DUBUQUE FEDERATION OF LABOR, ten years as chairperson of the Metal Trades Council, and ten years on the 2nd District Committee on Political Education. He also served as trustee of Machinists Local 1238, treasurer of the local and financial secretary.
Williams was a representative for organized labor on the TOURISM Committee of the Chamber of Commerce. He was asked by the national representative of the laundry workers to serve as their business agent from 1979 to 1981.
Employed at the ADAMS COMPANY (Encyclopedia Dubuque) for forty-one and one-half years, Williams served from 1946 to 1981 in union activities. He chaired the Second District Farm-Labor Coalition and held membership in the Dubuque County Democratic Party's central committee. Williams campaigned unsuccessfully for county supervisor in 1976 and 1978.
