WALKER, F.T. (Lindsay, Ontario, Canada, Aug. 1, 1841--Island of Capri, Feb. 6, 1889). The youngest in a family of seven children, Walker showed an early interest in learning which convinced his parents to send him to school in Montreal, Quebec and later to Regiopolis, Kingston. He moved to Dubuque in April, 1865. He studied law in the offices of Griffith and Knight and after passing the bar formed a partnership with Alonzo Cragin. This lasted until 1873 when the law, loan and real estate firm of Walker and Rhomberg was formed. (1) His service as an alderman in the city ended in 1877. (2) He was elected to the executive committee of a Tax-Payers League in 1879. (3)

The investments he owned ran from Austin, Texas to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. In 1883 after the reorganization of the First National Bank of Grafton, North Dakota, Walker was named president. (4) In August, 1885 he was one of the stockholders and directors of the newly formed Dubuque Mortgage, Loan and Trust Company. (5) ---
