VANCE, Janet
VANCE, Janet. (Dubuque, IA- ). Vance was elected into the Order of the Arrow (BOY SCOUTS) the first year that women were eligible for induction. In 1989 Vance completed her twentieth year as a volunteer with Boy Scouts in Dubuque. In recognition of her efforts, she received the George Meany Award from the Dubuque Federation of Labor in 1987. (1) She received the Commissioners Arrowhead, Silver Beaver, District Award for Merit and St. George Award for service to the community, youth and scouting from the Scouts. (2)
Vance was involved with the Neighborhood Watch Program, Badger Blood Bank, and Cancer and Heart funds. (3) When the NORTH DUBUQUE IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION was established in 1973 she was elected its secretary. (4) She also served four years as a union steward for the food service workers in the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT.
