Beginning with one piece of equipment used for grading farm fields and digging basements, the company by 2019 had grown to over four hundred machines and more than one hundred employees involved with concrete paving and sgructures, earthwork, demolition, trucking, and underground utilities.

TSCHIGGFRIE COMPANIES. Tschiggfrie Excavating Company was established in the fall of 1963 by Ed and Joan Tschiggfrie. Beginning with one piece of equipment used for grading farm fields and digging basements, the company by 2019 had grown to over four hundred machines and more than one hundred employees involved with concrete paving and sgructures, earthwork, demolition, trucking, and underground utilities.

In igs first fifty years of business, Tschiggfrie Company has been involved in such emergency work as flood prevention during the 1965 flood, grain derailments, water and sanitary main breaks, sinkholes and large slide repairs. Construction work included Tschiggfrie initiated subdivisions including Clarke Crest, Birch Acres, Emerald Acres, Alpine Park Community, Marna Ridge, and Shady Oaks. The company also played significant roles in the BEE BRANCH restoration, Dubuque Regional Airport, Sunnycrest Manor, Highway 61/151, Dubuque water plant, and the NORTHWEST ARTERIAL.

Recognition of their work locally has led to contracts being awarded throughout the Tri-State area.
