THOMAS, E. Marshall. (Fort Madison, IA, Mar. 17, 1907--Dubuque, IA, Dec. 25, 1989). Thomas was named lawyer of the Year in 1976 by the Iowa Bar Association. A practicing attorney in Dubuque for forty-five years, he held membership in the Advisory Commission of the Iowa State Bar Association from 1946 to 1962, Iowa Board of Examiners from 1953 to 1961, and was chairman of the National Conference of Bar Examiners from 1964 to 1965.

Prominent in community activities, Thomas served on the board of directors of the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE and the board of trustees of the FINLEY HOSPITAL (THE). From 1958 to 1964 he served on the Commission on World Service and Finance of the Northern Iowa Methodist Conference.

Thomas was awarded the Junior Chamber of Commerce Service Key in 1939 for distinguished civic service.
