SCHUMACHER, Melvin F. "Tink" ( ). An employee of the DUBUQUE PACKING COMPANY, Schumacher was a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butchers Workmen of North America, Local 150. From 1944-1962, he served as president and business agent for the union. Considered a pioneer in negotiations, he helped establish the first employer-paid hospitalization insurance clause in a 1946 agreement. This was later adopted by the entire meatpacking industry in 1953.

Schumacher was a founding member of DUPACO COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION. He was inducted into the DUBUQUE AREA LABOR HALL OF FAME in 2002.
