SCHEPPELE MACHINE WORKS. Located at 852-54 Clay Street and in 1915 at 870-880 Clay, the business was operated by Charles A. Scheppele. The company manufactured Hawkeye Marine and Stationary gasoline engines with the specialty being the "Hawkeye Special." In 1911 they were involved in the manufacture of engines used in speed boats competing in the DUBUQUE REGATTA. One boat displayed at the company had a Scheppele engine of 80 horsepower. (1)

The company announced in 1913 that it had hired two automobile repairmen for its shop at 870 Clay. (2) They were at the time also local representatives of the Paige Automobile Company and the Empire Automobile Company. In 1916 the company was also advertising used cars.
