RUMMLER, Alexander Joseph.(Dubuque, IA, July 25, 1867 – Stamford, CT., Jan. 1, 1959) American painter. In 1888 Rummler traveled to New York to study art at the Art Students League of New York. In 1905 he moved with his family to Europe to further his study of painting at the Académie Julian in Paris with Jean-Paul Laurens.

At the end of WORLD WAR I, Rummler became known nationwide. His painting of the signing of the armistice was displayed on billboards advertising Waterman's fountain pens, one of several types used in the ceremony. In 1926 he was chosen to represent Connecticut in the Philadelphia Exposition where his paintings took first place.

In 1936 Rummler began working for the Works Progress Administration (WPA) painting murals for the Norwalk High School. Rummler painted sixteen murals and eight smaller panels depicting life in the community and served as town treasurer.

In 1942 Rummler moved to Stamford, Connecticut.
