REYNOLDS, Freda M. (Ste. Marie, IL, June 8, 1923--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 26, 2017). The eldest daughter of Henry J. and Lillian Catherine (Yager) Kirts, Freda started her life-long teaching career on an emergency teaching certificate in one of the last one-room schoolhouses in southern Illinois. She was the first in her family to earn a college degree, a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Illinois State College in 1950. She earned her Masters degree in 1952.

Freda met her future husband while instructing children on a U.S. Army base in Japan. After their return to the USA, she married Rex REYNOLDS on August 16, 1958, in Hollywood, Calif. She continued teaching in California and Iowa while raising four children.

She taught in the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT — primarily at BRYANT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL and HOOVER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL from the late 1960s to the late 1980s.
