RETTENBERGER, Wendelin. (Stauffen Bavaria, Germany, Mar. 30, 1899-Dubuque, IA, Aug. 11, 1987). Park superintendent. Rettenberger worked for the Dubuque Park Department from 1924 to 1952. In 1934 he was appointed the acting superintendent of parks and was made superintendent in 1936.  
RETTENBERGER, Wendelin. (Stauffen Bavaria, Germany, Mar. 30, 1899-Dubuque, IA, Aug. 11, 1987). Rettenberger worked for the Dubuque Park Department from 1924 to 1952. He was one of the three main assistants of [[CALDWELL, Alfred|Alfred CALDWELL]] in the development of [[EAGLE POINT PARK]]. In 1934 he was appointed the acting superintendent of parks and was made superintendent in 1936 when Caldwell was dismissed.  


Rettenberger helped establish [[EAGLE POINT PARK]], the "peony trail", and landscaping of the urban renewal area. With his wife, Thekla, he started Rettenberger Tree and Landscaping Service in 1952.

RETTENBERGER, Wendelin. (Stauffen Bavaria, Germany, Mar. 30, 1899-Dubuque, IA, Aug. 11, 1987). Rettenberger worked for the Dubuque Park Department from 1924 to 1952. He was one of the three main assistants of Alfred CALDWELL in the development of EAGLE POINT PARK. In 1934 he was appointed the acting superintendent of parks and was made superintendent in 1936 when Caldwell was dismissed.
