RESURRECTION SCHOOL. The first faculty at St. Philomena's School was all lay personnel. With the direction of Father O'Reilly of ST. RAPHAEL'S CATHEDRAL, a parochial school was built through voluntary contributions in 1871. The school continued with an average enrollment of sixty until the opening of ST. ANTHONY'S SCHOOL in 1876.

A twenty-acre site along Asbury Road was purchased for thirty thousand dollars in 1959 when Archbishop Leo BINZ extended the parish boundaries. In 1961 the first six grades enrolled one hundred sixty students.

When a seventh grade was added in 1962, the enrollment soared to two hundred twenty-three. The enrollment in the school in 1963 when eight grades were operated reached three hundred twenty-nine. In 1965 the enrollment had reached four hundred sixty-five.

Dedicated on January 22, 1962, Resurrection School adjacent to the CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION was the last school in the ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBUQUE blessed by Archbishop Leo BINZ before he left for St. Paul, Minnesota. An eight-room addition made to the school in 1964 was blessed by Archbishop James L. BYRNE.
