RAILROAD BRIDGE

These three transfer boats photographed in the ICE HARBOR were floating railroad bridges.
RAILROAD BRIDGE: Prior to the construction of the DUNLEITH AND DUBUQUE BRIDGE, railroad tracks ran right to the water's edge. Steamboats equipped with tracks on their decks, allowed the trains to roll on to them. The boats then crossed the river holding up to ten railroad cars. The train then rolled off the boat on the other side and resumed it travels.
