QUIGLEY, Patrick. (Londonderry, Ireland, 1799--Dubuque, IA, August 1865). Quigley married Catherine Rooney in St. Louis on June 3, 1824. They moved to Galena nine years later and then to Dubuque.
Quigley and Alexander Butterworth, who figured prominently in RALPH, opened a store. Quigley became involved in Democratic politics and served as the first Justice of the Peace. He later served as a trustee and treasurer of the city in the late 1830s and early 1840s. Quigley's influence among Dubuque Irish Catholics helped George Wallace JONES win his election to the United States Senate.
One of Jones' sons played a pivotal role in Daniel O'Connell QUIGLEY joining the Confederacy during the CIVIL WAR.
