PULS, Alfred. (Mar. 2, 1883--Dubuque, IA, Apr. 11, 1991). Poet and Dubuque County's oldest citizen. In January 1968, the TELEGRAPH HERALD published Puls' "Sidewalks of Dubuque." The commentary, written in response to an action of the Dubuque City Council, launched the writer on a widely recognized life of editorial comment on a variety of topics including the VIETNAM WAR and legalized bingo.
