PROPELLER CLUB. Organization suggested in the 1950s by the Manufacturers and Wholesalers Bureau of the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce. Those interested in the club were considered to have an interest in the development of the MISSISSIPPI RIVER for conservation, recreation or transportation purposes. Part of a national organization, the Dubuque chapter was not intended as a lobbying organization but rather as a group which would implement the policies of other groups. The goal of the club was to show the public that the inland waterways were an important part of the national economy and defense.
