MUSIC MEN BARBERSHOP CHORUS (THE).

A "Singing Valentine" is delivered at a local restaurant.

MUSIC MEN CHORUS. Singing a cappella music in the barbershop style, the Music Men Chorus is part of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Their music ranges from straight barbershop to gospel and patriotic songs. Shows are scripted performances rather than concerts. (1) The Music Men Barbershop chorus is the primary performing ensemble of the Dubuque, Iowa, chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, a 23,000 member, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and encouragement of Barbershop singing throughout the world. The Dubuque Chapter was chartered in 1949. The current membership includes men ranging from teenager to senior and from experienced performer to novice. (2)

In 2010 the group led a group of carolers organized by the Mercy Health Foundation from the HOTEL JULIEN DUBUQUE through area restaurants and finally to CABLE CAR SQUARE. One of the most popular seasonal successes has been the "Singing Valentines" held annually on Valentine's Day. Arriving unannounced at a home or place of business with rose in hand, a quartet will serenade a loved one. Members travel throughout the Dubuque area for the popular event. (3)
