MINDFRAME THEATERS. An independent movie theater in Dubuque for nearly ten years, Mindframe Theaters in 2008 replaced Kennedy Mall Cinema 6 which was located at the rear of KENNEDY MALL. Prior to the opening of Mindframe in 2008, the theater had been operated by Carmike Cinemas Inc. for nearly twenty years. (1) Originally advertised as a place to view independent films, the theater in recent years had featured wide-release movies. (2)

Over the years, the owners began a crowd-funding campaign to upgrade the seating. An upgrade to digital projectors was required by an industry-wide mandate. (3)

On December 24, 2017 theater owners announced the theater would close after January 1, 2018. (4)

On January 16, 2017 PHOENIX THEATRES announced it was renovating the building. (5)
