LYFT. On February 23 2017, one day after ride-sharing company Uber announced plans to expand to Dubuque, representatives of Lyft announced it has already launched operations here. Lyft announced that the company had expanded to fifty additional cities, including Dubuque. That was the largest one-time expansion in company history, according to a news release.

Lyft operated a transportation system similar to Uber. Customers called for a ride using a smartphone application. A nearby driver picked them up and took them to their destination. Payments were made through the app, and no cash was exchanged between driver and passenger.

Lyft’s website indicated that its Dubuque service area included rides to smaller neighboring communities, including Bellevue, Cascade, Dyersville, and Peosta. Uber planned to launch operations in Dubuque on March 31, 2017.
