He served in [[WORLD WAR II]], first with the Army's 94th division and later with the 9th United States Army Air Force Band in Paris, France.

Upon being honorably discharged from the service, he formed [[DUBUQUE ELECTRIC MOTOR SERVICE INC.]] with his father and his younger brother, Harry. Philip was President until he retired in 1994. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Club of Galena, the American Legion, the Electrical Apparatus Service Association, Midwestern Chapter and Resurrection Catholic Church.
