In 1986 Dubuque County offered both the regular plates as well as "vanity plates." Each example is shown.
In 1996 the county first issued raised number and letter plates before going to the flat plates.
In 2012 the color of the numbers and letters became black. Once the combinations of numbers and letters were exhausted, the letters began appearing before the numbers to allow more plates to be issued.
