LAVENDAR HILL. Named after a 1951 motion picture, "Lavender Hill Mob" and spelled with an "a" for a creative touch, the band was founded in the mid-1960s by John Walachy, a graduate of WAHLERT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL and LORAS COLLEGE. To avoid legal issues, "Mob" was later dropped. (1) The group often played songs by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Neil Young. Performing until 1979, the group was remembered for a "heavy and loud" sound. (2)
