LARGE AND AMSDEN. Business. Located at 201-219 Main Street, the business was one of the oldest and largest wholesale boot and shoe houses west of the MISSISSIPPI RIVER. The company was established in 1856 by W.P. Large who formed a co-partnership with M.R. Amsden in 1879. Upon the death of W.P. Large, the presidency of the company passed to Walter Large who remained in New York as a prominent attorney. M.R. Amsden, the general manager and treasurer, was the sole manager of the company.
