KLEINSCHMIDT, John. (Dubuque, IA, September 9, 1860--- ). Kleinschmidt attended the public schools until twelve years of age, at which time he entered upon his business career as a clerk in his father's store. There he later became a partner in the business, which was then conducted under the firm style of F. Kleinschmidt & Son. When the junior partner had acquired a sufficient capital he purchased his father's interest in the store and carried on business--J. KLEINSCHMIDT-- alone for a number of years. In 1893 he sold out, and his financial resources increased with investments in real estate.

Kleinschmidt was one of the organizers of the Iowa Mutual Building & Loan Association and was Secretary of the same for a time. He served one term as Alderman from the Third Ward in 1887. He was active in inaugurating the sewer and water systems of Dubuque.
