KENNEDY, John F. (Brookline, MA, May 29, 1917--Dallas, TX, Nov. 22, 1963). Thirty-fifth President of the United States. While a United States Senator, Kennedy visited LORAS COLLEGE in 1956 to receive an honorary degree and serve as the commencement speaker.

In 1964 Loras College established a John F. Kennedy Award. Recipients of the honor have included Sargent Shriver, a brother-in-law of the president and former head of the Peace Corps, and Richard Cardinal Cushing of Boston, Massachusetts. KENNEDY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, opened in 1965, was named in his memory as were Kennedy Road and KENNEDY MALL.
