KENNEDY, Gene. (LeMars, IA, Oct. 28, 1927- ). Kennedy, a graduate of LORAS COLLEGE, served one term in the Iowa House (1969-1971) before his election to the Iowa Senate (1971-1975). Assistant minority leader in 1974, Kennedy chose not to seek re-election to his 11th District seat. In the same year he managed the unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign of James Schaben.

A former advisor National Police Officer Assn. of America, Kennedy became a lobbyist for the Iowa Sheriffs' Association. (1) In 1976 he was hired by the City of Dubuque to lobby for the construction of the DUBUQUE-WISCONSIN BRIDGE. (2) Along with Dennis HOULIHAN, Kennedy established the highly successful LEGISLATIVE DAYS.

In 1983 after he had moved to Des Moines, Kennedy proved instrumental in the passage of bills setting up parimutuel betting and a state lottery. (3) In 1994 he was a gambling lobbyist. (4)
