KANE, Martin. (Rochester, NY, 1803--Dubuque, IA, February 20, 1890). Arriving in Dubuque as a child with his parents, Kane began learning the printing trade in 1867. In 1883 he purchased an interest in the Daily Telegraph and served two years as its business manager.
Kane's first political experience came serving two terms as city recorder and one as township clerk. In 1884 and 1885 he represented the Fourth Ward in the city council.
