JULIEN CHAMBER CHOIR. Established in 1999 by Kristen Eby, director of choral activities at the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE and Jeff Pappas, former director of choral activities at CLARKE UNIVERSITY, the choir was to provide another choral opportunity that was more of a chamber ensemble. Chamber ensembles usually include a smaller number of musicians with fewer voices to one of the vocal parts--soprano, alto, tenor and bass. Starting with nineteen singers, the group eventually reached about 26 before reducing itself to 21 members. The intention was to have about five people per part.

The majority of the ensemble involved professional musicians including high school and collegiate conductors. Occasionally highly skilled high school singers were invited to join for a performance. The abilities of the individual performers allowed the choir to perform works from Bach to contemporary composers.

The group performed two concerts annually preceded by an eight-week rehearsal schedule. It was also asked to perform for events inside and outside the immediate area of Dubuque.
