JONES, W. M.
JONES, W. M. (Preston, England-Unknown). Musical director, BEETHOVEN CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC. After studying music in London, England, Jones served as the organist at St. Alban's Church in Lancaster, England for thirteen years.
In 1872 Jones came to Dubuque and established the conservatory, then the only Iowa institution of its kind, where studies were systematized by being graded into twenty levels of instruction. This school became the New Conservatory of Music.
Prof. Jones also held the position of organist at the Cathedral beginning on September 1, 1869 and was the conductor of the DUBUQUE CHORAL SOCIETY.
