JOHN BELL. John Bell was born in Scotland on December 15, 1827 and emigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1844. He moved to Dubuque in 1853, established himself as a carpenter, and worked on many local buildings for the next thirty years.

The 1868-69 and 1880 Dubuque City Directory gave the address as the east side of Locust between 9th and 10th.
