JOHNSTON, Eleanor E. Rioux. (Norwich, CT, Mar. 29, 1943--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 14, 2013) The daughter of Joseph and Alpheda (Paradis) Rioux, Eleanor graduated from Sauna, Kansas High School, and later received her B.S. degree from Marymount College, Salina, Kansas and her M.S. degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She married Arden "Doc" Johnston on September 27, 1975 at ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER CATHOLIC CHURCH.

Eleanor was employed with the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT as a high school counselor at HEMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOOL, Gifted and Talented Coordinator for Keystone Education Agency, Director of the Accelerated Program at CLARKE UNIVERSITY, and later as the owner of Johnston Success Institute providing training, facilitation and mediation workshops. The last years she was highly involved in the operation of the HESS AND JOHNSTON AUCTION SERVICE.

Eleanor had a love of gardening and forestry which led to her serving on the Soil Conservation board. In 1981 she and her husband planted over 11,000 seedlings on their property south of Dubuque.
