ILG, Paul. (Germany, May 3, 1853-Dubuque, IA, Sept. 9, 1923). County engineer. Ilg, schooled in Germany, was the chief engineer of the Wurtenburg railway before immigrating to America in 1880. He came to Dubuque in 1890 and soon assumed the office of assistant city engineer. After one year's service, Ilg was elected county engineer, an office to which he was repeatedly elected by Dubuque voters. When the office was made appointive, he was chosen again for the position by the supervisors for a total length of service of twenty years.
