HUMKE BAKERY. In 1909 Wither's Bakery was purchased and operated under the name of Graessle & Humke at 13th and Main for one year. In 1910 the bakery moved to 1538 Central Avenue and operated as F.O. Humke Sanitary Bakery. The business moved directly across the street in 1919--1515 to 1527 Central. In 1926 the company incorporated under the name of Humke's Sanitary Bakery. Officers in 1934 included F.O. Humke, president; A.E.Humke, vice-president; and J.M. Weidich, secretary and treasurer. (1)

Once located on Central Avenue, Humke's moved to 1135 Main Street in January 1923.

The 1934 through 1951 Dubuque City Directory listed 1527 Central.
