HOUSE OF MEHLHOP. Started in June of 1855 by John MEHLHOP, Sr., the company in 1929 was managed by Carl F. Mehlhop who had worked with the firm for twenty-five years. At the annual sales meeting, it was announced that 1929 had been the largest year for the popular Charles Denby and La Fendrich cigars and the firm had been appointed the sole distributor of the Joan of Arc cigar and the L. & H. Stern, Inc. line of pipes. (1)

The business was dissolved on December 28, 1936. (2)

The 1929 Dubuque City Directory listed 372 Main for this wholesaler.

The 1934 Dubuque City Directory listed 251 W. 6th.
