HOPPE, Fred. (Burscheidt, Germany, Mar. 3, 1836--Unknown). Director, Iowa Conservatory of Music. Following the [[CIVIL WAR]], Hoppe taught music in Dubuque and founded the Iowa Conservatory of Music. Elected the leader of the [[GERMANIA BAND]], he continued as its leader when it merged with the Great Western Band.

Hoppe held the position of organist at [[ST. MARY'S CHURCH]] for three years and beginning in 1876 served in the same capacity at [[SECOND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH]]. He was married in 1857 to Laura Hager of St. Louis; they had six children.
