HEITZMAN, Harriet. ( -- ). On January 19, 1996, Harriet was honored by the DUBUQUE COUNTY FINE ARTS SOCIETY with its Elisha Darlin Arts Award for her outstanding contributions to the cultural life of Dubuque. (1)

At the time of the presentation, Harriet had been a board member of Dubuque Arts Council Artists in Residence (DACAR) for twelve years and was active in fund raising, hospitality, and programming. She served as chair of the program committee of (DACAR) from 1990 to 1994. As the chair, she attended concerts to audition and book new talent, negotiated contracts and arranged receptions. From 1994 to 1995, she was president-elect and in 1995 became president of the of DACAR. (2)

In 2017 Harriet proved her fundraising capabilities for the DUBUQUE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. From February 1 to April 24, five local celebrities raised money on behalf of the DSO. Heitzman raised the most funds and, as a result, won the 2017 Pursuit of the Podium honor and replaced Maestro Intriligator to conduct one selection at the free Summer Melodies concert held at the DUBUQUE ARBORETUM AND BOTANICAL GARDENS at 6:30 pm, on June 25, 2017.
