HEINEMANN, Eugene. (Stockholm, WI, 1926--Dubuque, IA, 1998). President, Dubuque Arboretum Association. Heinemann worked thirty-seven years for the Burlington Northern Railroad until 1983. He knew where he wanted to remain. In 1980 with several other interested members of the Tri-State Men's Garden Club he started the DUBUQUE ARBORETUM AND BOTANICAL GARDENS on 16.5 acres of land that was part of MARSHALL PARK (1)

In 1986 Heinemann received an award from the Iowa Park and Recreation Association for his leadership in the Association and his nearly nine thousand hours of volunteer work from 1983, when he became president. (2) In 1997 he received the FIRST CITIZEN AWARD from the TELEGRAPH HERALD.
