Hartig, an Eagle Scout, was an active supporter of the [[BOY SCOUTS]] in Dubuque and served as president of the Council. He was the recipient of the local Silver Beaver, the North Central Region Silver Antelope (first recipient of the award in the history of the Northeast Iowa Boy Scout Council) and the National Court of Honor Distinguished Eagle Scout awards. In 1976 he served as the national council representative for the Northeast Iowa Council and received the organization's 50-year veteran award. Hartig was also presented with the Sertoma Club Award for Significant and Meritorious Service to Mankind.

HARTIG, David S., Sr. (Dubuque, IA, Dec. 30, 1910--Dubuque, IA, June 6, 1987). President (1964-1972) Hartig Drug Company. In 1932 Hartig joined the company begun by Albert J. HARTIG in 1905. He served as the treasurer, executive vice-president and, eventually, president.
