HARDIE, Frank. (Dubuque, IA, Mar. 22, 1911- ). Chairman, Frank Hardie Advertising. Hardie founded Frank Hardie Advertising Inc. in 1947. The company was sold to Lamar Outdoor in 1999.

Hardie, the recipient of the 1988 FIRST CITIZEN AWARD of the TELEGRAPH HERALD, compiled a distinguished list of service to the Dubuque community. He served as the first president of the Arboretum Association and held charter-member status in the CLARKE COLLEGE Development Council. A former board member of the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, Hardie served on the boards of Albrecht Acres and the DUBUQUE ARTS COUNCIL. He was a director of the Five Flags Executive Committee, the DUBUQUE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, and was a project business consultant for JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT. Hardie served as president of the Rotary Club, the St. Columbkille Parish Council and the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Board of Education. He was instrumental in founding the Dubuque Arboretum Association.

In addition to the Telegraph Herald award, Hardie received the Distinguished Civic Service Award from the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, Boys' Club of America Bronze Keystone Award (1973, 1982), and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from LORAS COLLEGE (1974). He was inducted into the Outdoor Advertising Hall of Fame in 1995.
