HAMMEL, Dan. (Dubuque, IA, Dec. 18, 1943--- ). President, Dubuque Building and Construction Council and an electrician. (1) Hammel's union activities began in 1970 with his election as recording secretary of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 704. In 1975 he ran unopposed for president and held the position until appointed full-time business manager in 1986 to fill an unexpired term. Hammel was subsequently elected to the post. He was one of the original seven members of the DUBUQUE AREA LABOR-MANAGEMENT COUNCIL and was active in the Alliance for Construction Excellence.

Hammel served as financial secretary-treasurer of the United Labor Participation Committee; recording secretary, Dubuque Area Labor-Management Council; vice-president, Dubuque Area Labor Harvest; and co-chairman, Alliance for Construction Exellence. Hammel also was a member of the boards of the DUBUQUE RACING ASSOCIATION, United Way, GREATER DUBUQUE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, Mercy Health Center, and the East Central Intergovernmental Association.
