HAAS, George. (Dubuque, IA, Feb. 22, 1927--Dubuque, IA, May 12, 2014). The son of Ralph and Theresa (Grobstig) Haas, George served during WORLD WAR II in the U.S. Army in occupied Japan. On June 23, 1951, George married Sally R. Beyhl. He worked as a carpenter for DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT for twenty-six years until his retirement in 1989.

As a couple, George and Sally were known for their many hours of community service and for many years served on the Senior Board at The Salvation Army. They volunteered at the Dubuque Rescue Mission for nineteen years and mentored for many years at the SAINT MARK COMMUNITY CENTER and IMMANUEL CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST.

George bowled in a league for many years and was a longtime member of the Mississippi Valley Running Association. As a runner, he enjoyed participating in area races and often won his age division.
