GOODMAN, Dominic. (Dubuque, IA, Mar. 22, 1925--Dubuque, IA, Dec. 24, 2001). The son of Dominic and Mary (Pratt) Goodman, Dominic graduated from LORAS ACADEMY in Dubuque in 1943 and the American Institute of the Air in 1947. Following graduation, he was employed at station KDEC in Decorah, Iowa, and KDTH in Dubuque. He worked for Rainbo Tire Service, Prudential Insurance Company,and the GIELLIS INSURANCE AGENCY INC. before founding GOODMAN INSURANCE SERVICES in 1965. In 1972, with partner Mike Ernsdorff, he entered the real estate business and later started GOODMAN AND ERNSDORFF REAL ESTATE.
Dominic was a member of the original St. Raphael's parish council, a former member of St. Raphael's choir, and a founding member of the Dubuque Christian Family Movement, Dubuque Serra Club, Dubuque Toastmasters, Area Residential Care, and the Dubuque Housing Initiative. He served tenures as a member of the Dubuque Park Board and the Dubuque Democratic Central Committee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. (1)
Goodman served as Dubuque Democratic Party Treasurer from 1962 to 1967 and co-chaired John Culver's first election to Congress in 1964. He and Culver remained life-long friends. He was active in campaigns at all levels for decades and was inducted into the Dubuque County Democrats Hall of Fame in 2010. (2)
